Changing Lives / Healing Communities
Many prisoners are release into the community homeless, with no housing support. Many end up in shelters or with old acquaintances that provide negative influences and pressures.
The Dismas Transitional Housing program is designed to provide safe and secure transitional housing immediately upon release. This supervised housing will also provide access to programs, services and support support allowing the client to work on building a new positive lifestyle. At present the SDPMS is partnering with existing community, faith and governmental agencies to provide safe and secure housing for prisoners being released from prison.
People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some it offers the chance to give something back to the community or make a difference to the people around them. For others it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. Regardless of the motivation, what unites them all is that they find it both challenging and rewarding.
